I started out as a gym instructor, I wanted to be able to earn a salary but also be close to the lifestyle I wanted of being able to work out and be challenged. But now I’m also a kick boxer on one of the Kuwaiti teams for kickboxing, plus I’m studying Law on the side. Cardio kickboxing drove me to real boxing. People didn’t have a problem with me playing sports to lose weight, but as a professional player in kickboxing since its a dangerous game, they had a bit of a problem with that! But I played and played until they dealt with it. I didn’t pay attention to what anybody said.
If I miss kickboxing for a week I become a very angry person, about anything. Kickboxing absorbs my aggressiveness and makes me calm again.
My dad tries to show me these kickboxers who got paralysed to scare me out of it, but I live for the game, I could play it until I get paralysed, no problem [laughs]. I need kickboxing in my life. If I can’t go to the gym I’ll buy a sandbag and use that to work out.
The media is not focused on any active person. But I’m hoping to bring more girls into kickboxing, of all varieties and ages. There are a few girls with hijab who also do kickboxing with me.
